Poco Dark Spark

AQHA 2011 Dappled Buckskin Gelding

We bought Spark from his breeder as a halter broke 3yr old. We primarily ride Spark barefoot, he is very sound. Spark will have shoes on for the sale. He is VERY smooth to ride at all 3 gates, & happily rides out alone away from the other horses. See his video below "Riding in Town" to see that he is good in traffic & level headed in new situations.

Spark has a scar on his lower right front pastern. This happened last fall & is not all the way flat yet. This has been examined by a veterinary & X-rayed & there are no underlying issues.

Frequently Asked Questions about SPARK

1Is he safe for a beginner?

Curt says “what do you mean "beginner" Alice rides him all over the place". She rides him the 4 miles over to work cattle & back & we don't have to worry about where she is in the big group of riders that are at the brandings & workings.

2Looking for A good example of how level headed Spark is?

We were all three riding out from our buildings (Alice in the back & off to the side). Progressing through a row of trees Spark stuck his front foot in a tangled up smooth telephone wire. Alice was riding on a loose rein, Spark took a couple of steps sideways to try to get out of it, & when Alice picked up her reins he stopped & stood still until Curt & I rode back to her & Curt picked his foot up to take the wire off, without incident.

Situations like that are ones you never want to see a child ride into. We keep nurturing our daughter's skill when it comes to horse riding.

Spark wouldn't be for sale except we have his paternal half-brother to take care of Alice.

3Why is Spark for sale?

Spark wouldn't be for sale except we have his paternal half-brother to take care of Alice.

In addition to running cattle on our land, we raise horses with dispositions like Spark. We have young horses coming up that need time & training so we are offering Spark for sale to go on & be a dependable mount for some special person or family. Many years go into training a seasoned ranch horse. We are very proud of Spark.

4Why an auction?

Investing in the future: To promote the ranch horses we raise & train on our ranch, we need to get out of our area so folks looking for dependable, steady minded, truly broke horses know where we live! We took one of our geldings "Jake" to a high end sale in Arizona, it was totally worth the trip. This is our first horse we have sold working with the Premier Horse Sale Company. So far they seem totally wonderful & considerate to work with. We want to find a company who is honest & works hard to keep that reputation. We do plan to offer a few horses of the ranch, but in general I think it is worth the effort to take your very best individuals to an auction format since people have a tendency to think all broke horses should be priced the same.

Sales are a lot of work but the promotion is worth it. Especially since people are there & see your horse & how nice they are. They will remember meeting us & how nice Spark is!
