Broodmares Page.
This is an over view of our broodmares. Everything has been ridden before becoming a broodmare except Carita. She was 10 when we bought her, but we are riding a 3yr old colt out of her that is one of the best we have so she has proven herself.
Most of our broodmares are related to Curt's original ranch mare Wanda. She was an exceptional cow/using horse, one of the best horses he has ever ridden.
Foals this year: one colt (the buckskin in pics) is sired by a stud bred by Mike Majors; AQHA CHICS HOPE STIK (CHICA SHINE x HOPE STIK (The bay pictured)(& we are expecting 2 next year from him) . This year we have 3 foals sired by a son of CHICS HOPE STIK out and another Mike Majors bred mare . And one Reg Welsh pony foal out of Alice's Welsh mare.
We are selecting for stock with a strong desire to please, making them easy to start under saddle &, after they are riding they remember from one ride to the next what they have learned. They have enough life to go all day but once they are broke are gentle enough for kids to ride. If a horse is trying to please it makes training them a pleasure, & when they go to their new homes the desire to please doesn't go away. You can make a lazy horse ride but as soon as they go to somebody who they know won't make them tow the line they go back to doing what ever they please.
Many "GENTLE" horses for sale are actually lazy. While most adults with some experience can get along with a lazy horse, little kids do not get along very well since the horse figures out quite quickly that they "don't have to". But put a young person on a horse who is soft & willing & you will have a horse lover for life!
