Prince is the horse we allowed Alice ride by herself, when she had just turned 3 yrs old. He has been the perfect mount for her, he has an excellent walk that will keep up with the best walker we own. He is the first big horse she learned to lope on & he is not bothered being left by himself, so when we are working cattle & have to take off after one you can ride off out of site & he and Alice can come along at her pace. Many times I have had to take off after a pair & I know Alice & Prince are fine even with no other horses in site.
When Alice started riding him at 3 yrs old she rode him for most of the long rides we went on. This was the main reason I decided our pony Oreo would be best off going to a home where he could be a beginners pony & not be asked to travel any distance. Prince was excellent for teaching Alice to neck rein, he is very soft to the rein and patient when she didn't have her reins the correct length. "
This year Alice is 5 yrs old & Prince is one of the horses she has learned to use a bit with. Her Dad & I watch the videos taken when she was 3 & it is amazing how fast children grow & how fast they learn. An old cowboy told Curt "if you put your kids on good horses on the start, they will always make & ride good horses".
